Kim's niece and her boyfriend came out to California for a weekend. Her niece completely surprised her boyfriend for his birthday. As I worked on the this video project, I became more and more emotionally involved with it. And then it dawned on me as to why; their photos reminded me of Kim and I, 20 years ago and our trips to Disneyland, too. Enough reminiscing. Enjoy the video.
We recently attended the Tall Ships Festival at Channel Islands. The event is awesome and we highly recommend it to everyone. It is definitely a 'must-do.' Unfortunately for Kim, this would be her last venture on the Tall Ships. You won't see her in any of the footage; it's not nice to film your wife when she's vomiting on the deck of a ship into a bucket. Drewbie didn't fare well either. Unfortunately, if you are not feeling well, your out there for 3 hours. The ships do have a beauty all of their own and I hope to have captured that in this video. As you'll see, the ship is in constant movement and holding the camera steady was quite a challenge. It would have been very easy to fall over board on this ship. Great soundtrack on this, turn up your speakers for added effect.

The last leg of our trip, 4 Corners, through the desert, Lake Powell area and onto Zion National Park. Last, we spent one night at the horrible Whiskey Pete's at Stateline-thus, it doesn't make the blog.

This is a must do. It's a tad pricey but well worth it. It's a day long event; 3 hr to Silverton, 2 hours in Silverton, 3 hours back to Durango in time for dinner. The views are incredible and the sounds of the steam engine take you back into the day. This narrow gauge, that is the distance between the rails, was built during winter, in 1881, in 9 months. When you see the terrain; you'll understand the feat of this accomplishment. A must do! www.durangotrain.com

Two days of travels broke down into one video. This was one of the most beautiful drives I have ever taken. I actually took this very route many years ago as high schooler in youth group. I vowed then that one day I would travel the same roads once again. And I did; but this time was with my family. Ouray Colorado, also named Mini Switzerland, was just that, euphoric. I won't try to explain the beauty that we saw. The pictures don't do the beauty justice, and not just because of our dirty windshield, even pictures wouldn't fully capture how we felt driving thru this route.

We spent 3 days at Wild Horse Hope Ranch-where Scott, Josie (Kim's sister) and family, live, on the Eastern Plains, 30 mi. just West of Nebraska. They invite inner city kids, families and groups out to the ranch to learn about the trust between God, animals and us. The live soley on pledges and donations and are truly the most incredible family that we have met. If it breaks, Scott or Talon fixes it. If it's alive, Josie keeps it that way. And don't ever ask them a horse question that you don't intend on hearing the full answer on. These people are brilliant, incredibly gifted and serving others with their gift. You can drop them a gift, too: www.wildhorsehope.org Back in the mid-90's I had two horrible horse experiences, all on the same ride. I know I had a lot to do with it, horses can tell when your gamer not a rider-but I've been horse shy ever since--and it would be safe to say that I still am. Enjoy this video, it's a bit of doozy, it's 12 mins long, better freshen up your glass and come back and sit down and watch this one.

This was one of our best vacations- EVER. The hiking, the ranch, National Parks, the National Park entrance signs. I like those. They give me a feeling of family. Thus, I take their pictures. Kind of silly I know, growing up, educational films in both school and television, would often depict families going on vacation together to the National Parks; mom and dad, kids, a Town and Country Squire station wagon, Coleman camping gear...I was always drawn to these types of films. Now, it's my turn.
In two weeks, we shot 4 hours of high-def video. I say we because you are about to experience: 'KIM CAM.' Back to the 4 hours of tape, I need to go through this footage and determine what is usable, edit it and somehow turn it into watchable material, plus I am learning new software, thus the delay in this video.
Horses. They scare me. A few people, who will remain nameless, want to see me in the saddle once again, thus the titled post "But did Jerry ride a horse?" I'm not telling, you'll find out soon enough.
In part 1, we'll take you to Kim's family in CO-where Kim quickly discovered the green light on the camera only means the power is ON but it is not recording. I'll take you fly fishing, courtesy of Ben and Drew Z and stop in at the infamous Casa Bonita restaurant.
